National Change of Address (NCOA)

National Change of Address Service (NCOA).

Update Addresses for Greater Direct Mail Success and Move Update Compliance
One of your greatest assets is your list of customers and prospects. This data is a key component in the success of your direct marketing efforts. Regardless of how complete or accurate your data is currently, Baber can help you utilize this valuable asset to its full potential. One way to update your current data is to identify undeliverable and incomplete addresses. Baber Direct provides NCOALink service at no charge to you. Your mailing list is processed against the NCOALink dataset of approximately 160 million change of address records filed with the USPS®. Move updating your mailing list will ensure deliverability, reduce waste and is now mandatory for all Standard Mail® (letters, flats, parcels, and non-flat machinables) as well as automation and presort-rate First-Class Mail®. This means that addresses must be updated within 95 days prior to mailing to qualify for discounted postage rates.

The source of the NCOA data is a permanent Change of Address filed by a relocating postal customer. The NCOA database is updated weekly with this information and changes are kept on file for four years. (Temporary moves are not carried on the NCOA database.)

If you choose not to take advantage of this free NCOALink service, you have several other options for satisfying the Move Update requirement:

    1. You can add "Or Current Resident" or "Or Current Business" to every address record, instructing the Postal Service to deliver your mail piece without regard to who is currently at that address.

    2. You can replace the names in your mailing list with a generic name such as, "The Pool Owner At" or "To Our Neighbors At", etc.

    3. You can use an Ancillary Service Endorsement on each mail piece such as "Return Service Requested" or "Address Service Requested" to get post-mailing corrections back from the Postal Service.
